Greenhouse Sports Youth Council

teamArchie are now 9 months into the new Youth Council programme where we are supporting 20 young people over a period of 12 months. The grant has created opportunities for the young people on the Council to engage with the charity beyond their school-based programmes.

The participants have been able to further develop transferable life skills (communication, teamwork and leadership) and practical skills for employment (project planning, public speaking, web design). These experiences have led to the positive development of both the participants themselves and the school communities they represent.

Youth Council

"It helped me to find out that I had the abilities to be a good leader... it was effective in bringing out the best in me. As a member of the Youth Council, I hope to advance my leadership skills even more."

- Aqeel, Youth Council member and table tennis participant

Great Dixter was the family home of gardener and gardening writer Christopher Lloyd – it was the focus of his energy and enthusiasm and fuelled over 40 years of books and articles. Now under the stewardship of the Great Dixter Charitable Trust and Christopher’s friend and head gardener, Fergus Garrett, Great Dixter is an historic house, a garden, a centre of education, and a place of pilgrimage for horticulturists from across the world.

We are extremely lucky to have Anna Pavord, gardening correspondent for The Independent and the author of a number of books on plants and gardening, joining us to give a tour of the historic gardens at Great Dixter.
