About Srey Net

IT ALL STARTED WHEN…

Bo Srey Net is one of 7 members in her family. They live in only one room in Domnak Thom village where the old rubbish dump used to be. Her father was a construction worker and her mother is a housewife but due to Covid-19 unemployment has hit the family.

“Before moving to live in Phnom Penh city, my father was a farmer, and my mom sold vegetables from our garden to make a living. Because my parents couldn't make a lot of money, they couldn't send us to school. Then my older sister and brother came to live in Phnom Penh with my uncle who was living near the former dumpsite area at Steung Meanchey. My uncle knew about CCF (Cambodian Children’s Fund). Luckily, my brother and sister were accepted into CCF's full education program. However, after a while, they decided to quit school and started to earn money to help support the family. Our living condition was getting worse, so my parents decided to move to Phnom Penh in the hope of finding better jobs. They were working at the construction site and the income could barely cover the rental house, food and our study. Pa Scott had heard about our hardship, so he allowed us to live in CCF’s World Housings for free. We can study, get help to buy school uniforms, bread, soup, and rice and we also can see the doctor and dentist.

I also would like to tell you a bit more about myself. I like the colors blue and red. My favorite dishes are: pizza, fried chicken, and sour soup with fish. In my free time, I like reading books, watching TV and playing with my friends at our school. When I grow up, I want to be a tour guide because I can practice English and travel to many places.”

Thanks to your support Srey Net and others like her have the opportunity to reshape Cambodian society.
