Seenaryo

Seenaryo is an arts and education charity that works with refugees and local host communities in Lebanon. Their artistic projects and holistic approach to education support personal development, academic achievement and social cohesion - and allow people’s voices to be heard.

Their mission is to transform the life chances of refugees by using the arts as a tool for personal development, academic achievement and community building.

The aims are to facilitate the creation of powerful, high-quality theatre and art by refugees. To build capacity amongst refugee communities by training young adults in facilitation, leadership, and artistic skills. To embed new models for learning by developing creative resources and training teachers to use them and to foster social cohesion within and between refugee communities and host groups. And finally, to challenge audiences locally and internationally to reassess cultural assumptions about refugees.

teamArchie’s involvement is born out of a long standing relationship with Oscar Wood, co-founder of Seenaryo and an inspirational musician and teacher. We have been supporting their flagship Showbuild programme – the seed with which Seenaryo was sown four years ago. There have been four Showbuilds across Lebanon and Jordan this summer, where groups of children came together to make a play in just one week.

A highlight of this year was linking one of the Jordan Showbuilds in Rusaifeh with one of our Lebanon Showbuilds in the Bekaa Valley. Both groups shared the theme of ‘water’ and gave each other challenges throughout the week. “Your play needs to have a bridge that connects Lebanon to Jordan”!

“We played together as a team, we were all equal: nobody was better or worse than anyone else.”
